We had a terrific gathering at our Open House and Winter show at Stuart Street Atelier! Congratulations to all our finalists and winners: Margriet Grant (Best in Show And second place, oils), Rebecca Elgin (First Place Drawing), Chris Greenland (First Place, oils), Feroline Higginson (Second Place drawing) Kiki (Honorable mention, oils).
Members and students of SSA are invited to submit their art work to the Atelier’s holiday show, to be held at SSA from December 13 to December 31. The show will feature faculty works as well as a juried exhibition for non-faculty.
Students and members participating in the juried exhibition can submit their works by emailing images to the director, Jennifer Sims, by 22 November. Results will be emailed by 1 December. Admitted work should be delivered ready to hang (with wire) on 10 December. Art work may be for sale, but this is not required. Prizes will be announced at the opening of the show, Friday December 13.

SPECIAL FALL SALE! Lina Liberace’s fabulous paper clay workshop is this coming weekend (September 28-29). Paper clay is non-toxic, Air-hardening and paintable! To encourage everyone to visit our town, this 2 day workshop is now just $150 per person. Students (ages 16-20) are also half price for all our workshops. Today, September 15, we have open studio for members, students and faculty from 12 to 4 PM. Note the time change! We will be drawing or painting Gomer from 12-3 and then having refreshments and talking about Pre-Raphealite techniques, including silverpoint, surface preparation, chroma and landscape. Remember: if you are not a member or current student you can come try open studios before joining. Just email me!

I am pleased and honored to announce that “After the Finish” has been juried into the National Show of the American Academy of Equine Art. The painting will join the exhibition opening September 27, 2019 at the new headquarters of the Masters of Foxhounds in Middleburg VA,
Although Stuart Street Atelier has been closed for the summer, it will be celebrating its reopening for the Fall with a wonderful weekend workshop in still life painting with Steven Parrish, August 24-25 from 10 to 5 PM. Parrish is a signature artist with Oil Painters of America. His teaching style is fun and easily accessible to all, regardless of your familiarity with oil painting. Get your artistic juices flowing in our air conditioned studio. We have the easels, tables, shadow boxes and refreshments. All you need to bring are your painting supplies, a list of which will be provided! This workshop is designed to be fun and small enough to provide a lot of individual attention and thus maximum returns for the students. $250 for two full days of instruction. Come join us!
